The Chameleon Help Page

Browser Compatibility.

The Chameleon pages have been tested with Internet Explorer 6, Netscape 7 and Opera 7 on Windows as well as Mozilla 1.6, Konquerer and Opera 7 on Red Hat Linux 9. They are best viewed with 1024 by 768-pixel screen size or higher, but they should give acceptable results with most common settings. No graphics plug-in is needed to view any of our pages.

Performance.

Our pages have been designed for maximum performance by using lightweight graphics and concise text. Any Internet capable computer should be sufficient, although the audio samples might not play on slower machines. We cannot guarantee performance or availability, as we are not responsible for the host or any connections to your machine.

Privacy.

Apart from the shop, where they are used if you select the ‘remember me’ option, cookies are not used to store information on your machine. We do not harvest cookie information or employ activity-gathering programs known as ‘spyware’. Temporary data used for the search facility contains no user information and is not used anywhere else.

Audio Samples.

We use three types of audio files: Windows Media (ending with .wma), MP3 (having .mp3 extensions), and a small number of audio (.au) files. Most modern browsers will play them without having to download extra software. We have identified two main problems with these files - both not under our control:

  1. Instead of playing the sample, the browser attempts to view it giving you a screen full of rubbish.
  2. After downloading, a file not found error is displayed.

Here some types of media software, such as Real Player, might affect the plug-in settings and this can be difficult to correct. To circumvent both these problems do the following:

  1. Right click on the audio link.
  2. Using the ‘save as’ option, save the file on your computer.
  3. Either click the open button when prompted or double click on the file directly to play.

You can also save files to play later by this method. Nearly all of the audio samples are less than 1 MB to avoid excessive download times on dial-up modems.
