Jane Sherriff

Soprano

After graduating with a B.Mus. degree from Nottingham University, Jane became a professional singer in 1989. She now studies with Jessica Cash in London, and her career involves performances as a soloist throughout the South as well as concerts and recordings with professional choirs at home and abroad. She has sung with The Clerkes of Oxenford, specialising in the high tessitura singing required of their treble line, The Hanover Band, London Voices, and extensively with The Choir of The Chapels Royal at The Tower of London. Her latest challenge was a solo quintet madrigal recital in a Tudor Manor in Gloucestershire - unintentionally candlelit!

Jane has an interest in early music with her lute and bass viol ensemble “Acanthus” and as a soloist in Bach Cantata series in London with both the St Mary-at-Hill Baroque Chamber Ensemble and the Lecosaldi Ensemble. She also has experience in the realm of contemporary music, having given several recitals for the Portsmouth & District Composers’ Alliance, and taken part in performances of Tavener’s Apocalypse in Athens and Ligeti’s Requiem in Paris. This July she will sing a solo part especially written for her in the premiere of Paul Pilott’s Judas Iscariot. As an oratorio soloist her most recent engagements include Brahms’s Requiem, Dvorák’s Te Deum and Haydn’s Paukenmesse in Dorset, Mozart’s Missa Brevis K275, Handel’s O Praise the Lord with One Consent and Purcell’s O Sing Unto the Lord in West Sussex, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Purcell’s Come, Ye Sons of Art, Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Fauré’s Requiem in her home county of Hampshire. Jane is delighted to be singing with Bristol Cathedral Special Choir again, having last taken part in their Bach B Minor Mass in 2000.
