ENSEMBLE ANDROMEDA … a musical ensemble which combines imagination and versatility in programmes involving artists who rank among the finest in their fields. Aware of the need to present recitals which incorporate both the highest standards of musicianship and a real sense of versatility, the trio has devised programmes which appeal not only for their attractive repertoire and virtuosic performance, but also for their informative and entertaining presentation.

With extensive individual performing careers in a diverse array of styles and genres, the members of the ensemble passionately believe in the infinite possibilities to combine classical music with jazz, world music and music theatre, and thereby to create fascinating programmes with immediate audience appeal.

Ann De Renais

Ensemble Andromeda

Ann De Renais is quickly making a reputation as one of the UK’s most versatile sopranos with a repertoire that ranges from Handel to Gershwin. She completed her postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music in 1996 having previously studied at the Royal Conservatories of Music in Brussels and Ghent. Her many credits to date include appearances with some of the worlds leading opera companies and orchestras, such as Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Theatre du Chatelet, Paris and the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. She also toured extensively for three years as 1st soprano with the world famous “Swingle Singers”, with whom she made numerous recordings. On the concert platform she has appeared at many major European festivals and premiered several new works.

Nicholas Cartledge

Award-winning flautist Nicholas Cartledge has been praised as being equally at home in any musical setting, having won plaudits for his classical, jazz and pop performances. He left the Royal College of Music in 1996 with all the major flute prizes and the Tagore Gold Medal for the College’s most outstanding student. He was also the first ever flautist to win the Royal Over-Seas League music competition. As a classical player, Nick has appeared as soloist with many major artists, including the guitarists John Williams and Carlos Bonell and the conductor Sir Andrew Davis. In the Jazz field, Nick has played across Europe and at several major festivals including the London and North Sea Jazz Festivals. His playing has taken him to major venues in many countries and he broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio and Classic FM. He is also a successful classical and commercial composer.

Michael Robinson

Michael Robinson has gained recognition both as a fine accompanist and as one of the country’s leading young tenors whose experience crosses many musical boundaries. He completed his studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music in 1995 since when he has performed all over the world both as accompanist and singer, notably as 2nd tenor in the “Swingle Singers”. He has fulfilled concert engagements at many major venues including the Lincoln Centre, New York; Orchard Hall, Tokyo; La Scala, Milan and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and has appeared with many leading orchestras including the Philharmonia and BBC National Orchestra of Wales. He has worked with many artists from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, including Sir Simon Rattle, composer John Williams, Sarah Brightman and Jarvis Cocker. Michael also works regularly as a producer and composer/arranger.
