Stephen Douse was born in Nottingham and was awarded a Helen Hayton Monica Scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music.

Since leaving the Royal Academy of Music, he has been pursuing a very busy and varied career. He has appeared regularly with the London Savoyards in their productions of the Savoy Operas at the Barbican Centre as well as with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. He has also worked for Kent Opera and Welsh National Opera taking part in their recent productions of Simon Boccanegra and Billy Budd in 1998.

Stephen has performed extensively in the UK and abroad with ensembles including the BBC Singers, The Academy of Ancient Music and the Western Wind Choir (affiliated to the Hilliard Ensemble). He has also appeared on BBC Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night.

Specialising in the music of JS Bach and his contemporaries, he has sung the tenor solos in over 80 Bach Cantatas in a series of the complete cycle in the City of London, as well as the role of the Evangelist in the St John, St Matthew and the St Luke Passions.
