Andrew Mayor has appeared with many of the British opera companies and has a wide repertoire of roles. Last year he covered Amonasro Aida and Aegeus in a newly commissioned work Minotaur both for Scottish Opera. Recent engagements include the title roles of Macbeth and Don Giovanni and ‘The Villains’ in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Iford Festival. Other roles include Renato Un ballo in maschera at Holland Park Festival, Lorenzo I Capuletti e I Montecchi for Grange Park Opera, Don Alfonso Così fan Tutte for Pimlico Opera, Silvio I Pagliacci for Castleward Opera; The Vicar Albert Herring; Masetto Don Giovanni and Ford Falstaff, all for English Touring Opera; Don Giovanni for Mid Wales Opera conducted by Mark Shanahan; Rigoletto; Onegin; Count Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro all at the Holland Park Festival.
International work includes a three month tour of the USA in the role of Danilo Die Lustige Witwe, Monsieur Gai in Lully’s Le Bourgeois Gentilehomme in France, Escamillo Carmen for the Arts Council of Penang, Malaysia and Germont La Traviata for the Kuala Lumpur Symphony Orchestra, also in Malaysia and Papageno Magic Flute in the Harare International Festival of the Arts, Zimbabwe. Andrew has recently toured Europe with Compagnia d’Opera Italiana as Sharpless Madam Butterfly and also sang Sharpless in Tokyo. At the beginning of 2008 he sang Prospero in a run of Berio’s opera Un re in ascolto in the Städtische Bühnen, Münster in Germany.
On the concert platform Andrew performs regularly with choral societies throughout the UK. In 2001 he was invited to sing Beethoven’s Choral Fantasia at the Osterfestspiele in Salzburg as part of the Maurizio Pollini Series with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. Other recent appearances as a choral soloist include Polyphemus Acis and Galatea with the City of London Sinfonia at St John’s, Smith Square; Carmina Burana, Brahms’ Requiem at Birmingham Cathedral, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis in Wells Cathedral, Bach’s B Minor Mass in Romsey Abbey and Mendelssohn's Elijah in London and Newcastle. He performs frequently in gala concerts which recently have included a Viennese Evening at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and an opera gala at the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden.
Future plans this season include Starveling A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Linbury Theatre, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, conducted by Richard Hickox in November and recitals in Tokyo and Kyoto. Choral works include Brahms Requiem, Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony and Beethoven Missa Solemnis. .
