Manchester Boys Choir:
  Jeffrey Wynn Davies - Director
  Kathleen Hesford - Piano

The Manchester Boys Choir was formed in 1981 and has since earned itself an international reputation.

Whether appearing in the UK or overseas, the choir impresses audiences and critics alike with its professionalism in performance and its ability to tackle a wide range of choral styles. It has toured extensively in Europe and has also visited Australia, Japan, Canada and the USA. The Choir performs frequently with major orchestras under internationally renowned conductors, and has also provided soloists for European Opera and for Opera North.

At least three performances a year are given in the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester’s international concert venue, where the Manchester Boys Choir has held an official Residency since the Hall’s opening in September 1996. A typical season might also include community concerts, charity and film work, TV, radio, recording plus touring.

Recent engagements have included Britten’s War Requiem - with both the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Martyn Brabbins) and the Halle (Mark Elder) in Leeds and Manchester – and the Spring Symphony with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the Chester Summer Festival (David Hill). There have also been collaborations with Huddersfield Choral Society (Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Berlioz Te Deum and Kodaly Psalmus Hungaricus), Carmina Burana in Harrogate, Mahler 3rd Symphony with Opera North (Simon Sloane) in Leeds, an appearance on Friday Night is Music Night and highly successful visits to both Russia and the Czech Republic.

There was also a Bridgewater Hall appearance with Aled Jones; performances in Preston Guildhall (with Evelyn Glennie), and Buxton Opera House, and a 21st birthday commission from the renowned York based choral composer Andrew Carter. In addition the boys made two appearances in Glasgow as guests of the National Youth Choir of Scotland, and gave the Manchester premiere of Rutter’s Mass of the Children in the Bridgewater Hall.

The Manchester Boys Choir and its feeder choirs are a provision of Manchester City Council Education Music Service.
